The Motus System: What to Do
This system will streamline your compliance and tighten
security in the FMCSA registration system.
Here’s how to prepare before the
transition.
The FMCSA has announced a move from their legacy online
portals to Motus. This new system is
designed to address issues of potential fraud within the Unified Registration
System (URS) and the old FMCSA Portal.
What Motus Will Do
Motus is a complete overhaul of the FMCSA’s registration
platform, built to integrate separate systems into a single, modernized
dashboard. Once rolled out, Motus will:
- Focus Regulatory Tasks – Motor carriers, brokers, and freight forwarders will be able to manage USDOT applications, operating authorities, biennial updates, and insurance filings all on one platform.
- Fraud Prevention – With your identifying information all on one platform, this prevents fraudulent registrations who may use a different website in your name.
- Modern Convenience – Motus will catch filing errors before submission, enabling you to file accurately the first time with immediate feedback.
How to Prepare for the Change
By May 14th, 2026, all motor carriers must log
into their FMCSA Portal Accounts to verify their information. Here’s what you need to do:
- Check your account - Log into your
current account on the FMCSA Portal.
Accounts are automatically disabled after 90 days and archived after 12
months.
- Verify your “Company Official” – This is
the Owner, Partner, Corporate Officer, or Authorized Employee. Make sure the person listed is accurate to
ensure there are no hold ups.
- Sync your Login.gov email – Whatever
email address you use for the FMCSA portal must match the one you use for
Motus. This is how the new system will
automatically connect your records.
- Update your business – If your physical
address, contact information, or fleet data have changed, you need to file a
Biennial Update (MCS-150) to ensure you are in good standing for the transition
to Motus.
If you have any questions about how to navigate the FMCSA
portal or how to file your MCS-150, you can contact Sky Transport Solutions and
we will help you get started before the deadline.
